For some international connections (INTERnational Conversation about Writing . . . er, I-CoW?) :0)
Check out http://www.literaciesoise.ca/Index.html . . . The Canadian “Festival of Literacies”
You’ll find podcasts from literacy workers, oral histories (presented in text and in video), fantastic reports (like those on how folks with limited formal education learn [they learn a lot!], literacy experiences of sex workers and the literacy workers who work with them, etc), and a number of other very interesting projects. I’m learning so much!
From their homepage:
——
Welcome to the Festival of Literacies.
We are a place to celebrate the creation and mobilization of knowledge
about literacy practice and literacy research.

NCoW will grow and prosper via partnerships with other smart, innovative projects and organizations. Increasingly frequently, I’m learning about new projects, assignments, programs, and organizations that overlap and enhance NCoW’s mission in amazing ways!
Our formal partnerships are these: http://orgs.tamu-commerce.edu/ncow/partnerships.asp
We are developing partnerships with many other organizations, which should be formal very soon. But we need more! And we will be working hard to make NCoW a place where said partnerships are true partnerships–symbiotic, generative!
We’d love to partner with student publications (newspapers, journals, websites, magazines), recurring events (celebrating student writing via poetry readings, CSW events, and the like), programs, schools, classrooms, community literacy projects, and the like.
Who should we contact? What about projects/publications/events (etc) in which you are involved? Can we partner with you? Let us know! You can contact us via this blog or shoot me an email directly at Shannon_Carter@tamu-commerce.edu
I’ll be following up on several contacts made at the recent NWP/NCTE meetings, including organizations representing student journalists (crucial!). I’d love to add more possibilities to this list.
Keep those great ideas coming!
